Autumn's mild, wet weather can transform gardens into an ideal breeding ground for mushrooms. As fungi start appearing in greater numbers over the coming weeks, gardening experts are warning pet owners and parents to stay vigilant.

Mushrooms commonly appear in gardens during autumn and early winter, when mild temperatures, increased rainfall and damp, organic-rich soil create ideal growing conditions. Fallen leaves and other decomposing plant material provide the perfect environment for fungi to thrive, making mushrooms a common sight on lawns and in flower beds at this time of year.
