Road markings compared to "giant Wotsits" have been removed from a street in Merseyside.

Wirral council introduced the markings last winter on a 155m-stretch of Grange Road West in Birkenhead as part of a trial of a one-way, low-traffic neighbourhood system.

The £300,000 project led to fierce opposition from residents who described it as "hideous" and nicknamed the road "Wotsit Street".
